Who should be the next captain of the Canadiens?

The Montreal Canadiens were back in town for their annual charity golf tournament - and faced questions about who will be the team's next captain.

Subban, Pacioretty, Price and Markov were associate captains last season

The Habs 4 assistant captains from last season react to fact that only one will wear the 'C' this season.

The Montreal Canadiens hockey season unofficially got underway today as the team's players and personnel lace up their spikes and head for the fairways for the annual charity golf tournament.

The Laval golf tournament is usually the first public appearance for Canadiens players in Montreal before training camp begins.

It's also a chance for the media to ask the players and management about pressing Habs matters.

The status of forward Max Pacioretty's knee was under the spotlight. He injured his knee in an off-ice workout in July.

Pacioretty said the injury happened as he was doing sprints, and hyper-extended his knee.

Rehab time for the injury is expected to take about 12 weeks, which would take him through training camp, and just before the start of the regular season.

Pacioretty said the injury is healing on schedule.

"The progression looks good. I'm trying to ramp up longer everyday and more intense everyday," said Pacioretty. "Even if I'm not out there with the team at first (during training camp), I think I'm able to do a lot on my own with the trainers to be even a little bit more beneficial."

He led Montreal with 37 goals and a career-high 67 points last season.

The other pressing question was: who will be team's next captain?

The Habs didn't name one last year, choosing to go with four alternate captains.

"We were saying last year it was a transition year for leadership," said coach Michel Therrien. "We felt at the end of the year when we all sat down that we were ready to name a captain, and this is something we're going to do before the start of the season."

Pacioretty, defenceman P.K. Subban, and veteran Andrei Markov are candidates to wear the "C".

Pre-sale for October game tickets begins today. The Habs start the 2015-16 season on the road in Toronto on Oct. 7.
