Woman, 23, dies after being hit by car in Montreal
Pedestrian was jaywalking on St-Denis Street Saturday night, police say
Montreal police say a 23-year-old woman, who was hit by a car as she tried to jaywalk across St-Denis Street Saturday night, has since succumbed to her injuries.
She was hit near the Duluth Avenue intersection just before 11 p.m. and transported to hospital in critical condition. Police say she had a severe head injury.
On Monday, police confirmed she died, making her the seventh pedestrian fatality on the island of Montreal this year.
The driver, a 51-year-old, was not considered at fault because the woman was not using a pedestrian crossing, said police spokesperson Const. Caroline Chèvrefils on Sunday.
The driver was not speeding nor was he under the influence of drugs or alcohol, she said.
He was treated for shock after the collision.
