Montrealer set to marry Queen's grandson converts to Anglicanism

The Montreal bride-to-be of Peter Phillips, the Queen's eldest grandson, has joined the Church of England, meaning he will be able to keep his place in line to the throne.

Autumn Kelly, who had been Roman Catholic, has converted to Anglicanism, Buckingham Palace confirmed. The Act of Settlement of 1701 requires the monarch to be a member of the Church of England and may not be married to a Roman Catholic.

The 30-year-old Phillips, who does not have a royal title, is Princess Anne's son. Although he is 11th in line to the throne, he does not carry out official royal duties and works for the Royal Bank of Scotland.

He is engaged to marry Kelly on May 17. She grew up in the Montreal suburb of Pointe-Claire and graduated from McGill University in 2002.

The two met at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal in 2003. She later moved to Britain.
