The popular Crystal Palace Amusement Park in Dieppe is shutting down on Sept. 1 after Cadillac Fairview Corp. announced Bass Pro Shops will open up in the space next to Champlain Place.

The amusement park will be closing in a month, while the attached Ramada Plaza Crystal Palace Hotel and Convention Centre and the McGinnis Landing restaurant will close on Oct. 31.

Brian MacMullin, the general manager of Champlain Place, said the rides that attracted families from across the region to Crystal Palace will soon have a new Moncton home.

“We are pleased to share that the rides have been acquired by the Maritime Fun group of companies, which includes Magic Mountain Waterpark. This ensures that this family experience remains part of the region for years to come,” MacMullin said in a statement.

The closure of the amusement park, hotel and restaurant will make way for a 110,000 square-foot Bass Pro Shops. The store sells fishing, camping, hunting and other outdoor products.

“We believe the opening of Bass Pro Shops is an extremely exciting opportunity for the local community, New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada,” MacMullin said in a statement.

“We strive to bring first-to-market, world-class retailers that are a desirable fit with our community to Champlain Place. Not only will the store be a great tourist draw, but it will also serve to reaffirm Champlain Place as New Brunswick’s pre-eminent shopping destination.”

The Bass Pro Shops store will open in 2015.
