The provincial government recently acquired the property, at 339 King St., and plans to invest $4.8 million to see the clinic up and running in the new location by December, Health Minister Victor Boudreau announced on Tuesday.

"Ensuring we have the right location to improve access to primary health care and the use of health–care professionals is important," Boudreau said in a statement.

"The new location will allow the interdisciplinary team of health–care providers to provide community–based primary care to patients in downtown Fredericton and the surrounding area."

The clinic is currently located in the Centennial Building.

The iRock site made headlines last year when city council voted to spend $150,000 on a five–month lease for the building to ensure its zoning as a possible strip club expired.

It was the last place in the city zoned for exotic dancing and council didn't want to risk it falling into the hands of an unidentified "criminal element."
