Landlord charged with murder in Moncton death

The body of a 57-year-old Moncton man was found in a house in the city's north end Wednesday. The man's landlord has been charged with first-degree murder.

The body of a 57-year-old Moncton man was found in a house in the city's north end Wednesday.The man's landlord has been charged with first-degree murder.

Stuart John Williams, 49, was in the house when police responded to a 911 call Wednesday afternoon.

"We received a call that there was a possibly dead male at an address on Churchill Street in Moncton," said Const. Damien Theriault.

Theriault said elements at the scene led police to believe the death was not from natural causes.

Cpl. Mike Gaudet said police are still looking for clues.

"At this point in time the investigation is continuing," Gaudet said at a Thursday press conference. "The forensic identification unit is still at the scene. There's no … confirmation or mention of any weapon being used."

Gaudet said the victim was renting a room from Williams, who is known to police.

Williams was ordered to undergo a 30-day psychiatric evaluation. He will remain in custody until March 2.
