The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning the public to avoid consuming Strawberry Sundae Cups from Wholesome Farms because of possible Listeria contamination.

Central Smith Creamery is recalling the dessert that has been sold in 115-mL cups and distributed to New Brunswick, Quebec, Ontario, Manitoba, Alberta and possibly nationwide

The inspection agency said recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store where they were purchased.

The agency also advised food services such as hospitals and nursing homes to stop serving the dessert, as pregnant women, seniors and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.

"Although infected pregnant women may experience only mild, flu-like symptoms, the infection can lead to premature delivery, infection of the newborn or even stillbirth," the agency said on its website.

No illnesses associated with the consumption of this product have been reported.

Symptoms can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache and neck stiffness. In severe cases, people can die from the illness, the agency said.
