The opening of the new Saint John Law Courts building at Peel Plaza will be delayed after problems were discovered with the heating equipment.
The Department of Justice confirmed the delay after the problems were found.
A government spokesperson said a malfunction on Sunday night caused some pipes to burst, which led to water damage in the building.
Officials were able to secure the former courtroom facilities at city hall, Charlotte Street and Sydney Street for the time being.
Meanwhile, the building’s contractor is working with its insurance company to evaluate the damage.
The $42-million Peel Plaza project has been a controversy for several years in Saint John.
The complex also includes the new headquarters for the Saint John Police.
