RCMP say they are investigating the death of a young adult found in a Moncton residence as a homicide.

The victim has been identified as 18-year-old Baylee Wylie. His body was discovered Thursday by Moncton firefighters when extinguishing an early morning fire at a residence on Sumac Street.

"Police have enough evidence to treat the investigation as a homicide," said Sgt. André Pepin of the Codiac Regional RCMP.

"The investigation is now focusing on the circumstances surrounding his death."

RCMP are asking for the public's assistance with the investigation.

The Moncton Fire Department was called to the fire in a triplex at 96 Sumac Street at about 4 a.m. Thursday.

Fire Chief Eric Arsenault said firefighters were able to contain the fire to one unit and extinguish it quickly.

"Unfortunately we did discover a fatality in the unit," said Arsenault.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Codiac RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
