Thomas Morgan Jones hired as Theatre New Brunswick's artistic director
New artistic director says he hopes to take more TNB performances on tour
Theatre New Brunswick will welcome its new artistic director next month.
Thomas Morgan Jones is a Toronto-based director, playwright and instructor and he'll be making the move to Fredericton to lead the theatre company.
"Almost everybody in the country, who's been in the industry long enough ... most people have come out here to work here," Morgan Jones said.
"It's a place that has a huge history."
Theatre New Brunswick is one of the oldest regional theatre's in the country. Morgan Jones said he hopes to take more shows on tour throughout the province and beyond.
"The idea of being able to grow plays here and then share that voice provincially, throughout the Maritimes and throughout Canada is important," he said.
He said he also wants to implement artistic training for professionals and develop theatre for children.
Morgan Jones has worked on stages at the Stratford Festival, the Charlottetown Festival, Cia Enviezada in Brazil and many more and he's trained in Paris, Japan and New York.
He will start the job on Feb. 1 and plans to move to Fredericton in April.
