Black Girl in Love (with herself) taking the stage at Northern Arts and Cultural Centre

This spring, The Northern Arts and Cultural Centre (NACC) presents Black Girl in Love (with herself) — a bold and honest live show from award-winning writer, speaker and wellness advocate Trey Anthony.

An unfiltered night of sisterhood with Trey Anthony is coming to NACC

This spring, the Northern Arts and Cultural Centre (NACC) presents Black Girl in Love (with herself) — a bold and honest live show from award-winning writer, speaker and wellness advocate Trey Anthony. The show is based on her best-selling book of the same name that inspired her North American wellness tour.

CBC is a sponsor for the event.

Known for her groundbreaking play Da Kink in My Hair, which was adapted into a hit television series, Trey Anthony brings her signature blend of humour and truth-telling to the stage in a night that dares to speak the unspeakable.

Black Girl in Love (with herself) is not your typical theatre show — it's an uncensored conversation about the realities many women face but which are too often considered taboo or off-limits.

Expect real talk on miscarriage, infertility, fibroids and the lived experiences of Black women navigating motherhood and wellness. Dive headfirst into forbidden questions like "Do you regret having kids?" and "What happens when one glass of wine isn't enough?"

The show is a combination of theatre, poetry, spoken word and monologue. It will also feature a fun, engaging expert panel and real moms sharing their stories.

At the heart of it all is Trey Anthony, a Jamaican-British-Canadian creator known as the first Black woman in Canada to produce and star in her own primetime series on a major network. Anthony is a powerhouse whose work spans television, theatre, and print, with writing credits that include OWN, Lionsgate and the Toronto Star.

NACC organizers say the night promises to have audiences exhaling, laughing and begging for more.
