N.S. revokes sales permit for water treatment company after customer complaints

The province has cancelled the sales permit for a water treatment company that was doing door-to-door sales in Nova Scotia, calling the company "unfit" to hold a direct sellers permit.

Customers of Atlantic Environmental Systems complained both to the province and to CBC News about what they felt were aggressive, high-pressure tactics, including in-home sales presentations that lasted for hours.

Some customers told CBC News the sales presentations had convinced them to spend thousands of dollars on water treatment systems.

A hearing was held in May, and Service Nova Scotia issued its decision Thursday afternoon. It is effective immediately. 

Atlantic Environmental owner Danny Goldman said Thursday he had no comment on the matter.

In a news release, the province said Atlantic Environmental Systems "demonstrated its untrustworthiness to carry on the business of direct selling."

This comes after a decision in April by P.E.I. Justice Minister Bloyce Thompson cancelling the company's vendor licence in that province, along with the licences of all its salespeople.
