Burnside jail assault nets 4 charges for 20-year-old man

A 20-year-old man is facing multiple charges after an assault on Tuesday evening at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility in Burnside left his cellmate with life-threatening injuries.

The victim of the assault, Tyrell Kenneth Benedict, was transported to hospital and remains there.

The accused is facing charges of aggravated assault, breaching a probation order and two counts of breaching a recognizance.

He is set to appear in Dartmouth provincial court on Monday.
