Members of the new Cape Breton Regional Municipality council will take the oath of office on Friday, without a councillor from District 2.

Nova Scotia Supreme Court Justice Robin Gogan will preside over the ceremony at noon at Centre 200.

The results of the municipal election in District 2 are subject to a recount, scheduled for Nov. 10.

Earlene MacMullin won District 2, defeating her nearest competitor, Lloyd Wilkie, by nine votes. A difference of fewer than 10 votes automatically triggers a recount.

The confirmed winner in District 2 will be sworn in at a scheduled meeting of council.
