Sea King lands at Rainbow Haven beach after warning light comes on
The crew hopes it will fly back to CFB Shearwater, which is located near the beach
A Sea King helicopter made an emergency landing near a Nova Scotia beach Friday afternoon.
The crew of three saw a warning light, prompting them to land in the parking lot of Rainbow Haven Beach in Cow Bay around noon, 12 Wing Shearwater spokesman Peter Ryan told CBC News over the roar of the running chopper.
The mechanical team will inspect the helicopter and the hope is to then fly it back to Canadian Forces Base Shearwater, which is located close to the beach.
Sea King helicopters have made emergency landings near the base in recent years. Last summer, one landed in a cul-de-sac in Mineville, east of Dartmouth. The year prior, a helicopter made an emergency landing at a golf course and had to be towed through Eastern Passage to get back to the airfield.
