East Coast bakers audition for The Great Canadian Baking Show

Bakers from the East Coast lined up in Halifax on Monday with their baked goods in hand to audition for Season 7 of The Great Canadian Baking Show.

Live in-person auditions attract more than 200 bakers in Halifax

More than 200 bakers united in Halifax on Monday with one goal in mind: Landing a spot on Season 7 of The Great Canadian Baking Show. 


Ducking in from the cold, bakers arrived for auditions at a downtown hotel with armloads of cupcakes, custards, cookies, macaroons, biscuits, pies and a fascinating array of colourful cakes of almost every flavour.

Bakers were invited to bring one signature baked item to the event for a morning of baking show fun, alumni visits and tasting – and vie for a spot to bake this summer on The Great Canadian Baking Show.

"There are so many wonderful bakers here today," said Season 5 baker Dougal Nolan of Dartmouth, N.S.

"They are from all over the Maritimes," added Amanda Muirhead from Westmoreland, P.E.I., who also competed in Season 5. "We would put them all on the show."

Nolan and Muirhead were on hand to offer advice to the auditioning bakers and sample some of their tasty creations.

Hundreds of bakers apply each season for The Great Canadian Baking Show for the coveted 10 spots in the baking tent.

Applications close March 12, 2023. Filming is set to take place late spring/early summer 2023 in Toronto.
