Canada's Ultimate Challenge: New country-wide obstacle competition now streaming

CANADA’S ULTIMATE CHALLENGE, a new competition reality series that turns the entire country into a giant obstacle course, now streaming on CBC Gem.

Six star athletes will coach the teams in solo, tandem or team challenges

CANADA'S ULTIMATE CHALLENGE, a new competition reality series that turns the entire country into a giant obstacle course, will debut Thursday, Feb.16 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT) on CBC TV and free on CBC Gem.

Local Players from the East Coast

Among the six teams of four players per team, three are from the East Coast.

  • Jesse Benjamin (she/her), 41, a Mi'kmaq matriarch and former veterinarian from Kjipuktuk, N.S.

  • Skylar LeBlanc (he/him), 27, a single dad and football player from Halifax, N.S.

  • Bradley Farquhar (he/him), 36, a businessman and adventurer from Mahone Bay, N.S.

The coaches

Six extraordinary coaches will guide and mentor teams of Canadians at site-specific physical challenges in a unique competition structure. Throughout the eight-episode series, the superstar Canadian coaches will make strategic decisions and motivate their players to victory. 

Coaches include: 

  • Sprinting legend and two-time Olympic champion, Donovan Bailey

  • Mohawk from the Kahnawake Territory, Olympian in water polo and advocate for Indigenous sport, Waneek Horn-Miller

  • Six-time Olympic medallist in cycling and speed skating, Clara Hughes

  • Three-time Olympic speed skater Gilmore Junio

  • Former captain of Canada's Olympic bronze medal-winning rugby sevens team, Jen Kish 

  • NFL Super Bowl Champion and competitive cyclist, Luke Willson

The hosts

Hosted by professional snowboarder Craig McMorris and sportscaster Nikki Reyes, each episode will take place at an iconic Canadian location where the teams will compete in spectacular Solo, Tandem or Team challenges that test them physically and mentally.

Coast to coast, Canada becomes an obstacle course
The thrilling action kicks off in Whistler, BC where teams work together to compete in an obstacle relay race all the way to the top of the Whistler Olympic Park Ski Jump. 

In Kelowna, BC, teams pull a plane as fast as they can down a runway. At the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City, players rappel down the outside of the landmark castle hotel to the beautiful streets of Old Quebec. And at Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park in New Brunswick, tandem teams push a sled through the world-famous Bay of Fundy mud flats.

The CanUC Jam Van brings mobile obstacle course across Canada

The CanUC Jam Van, complete with a mobile obstacle course challenge, visited Halifax from February 10 to 12. The van will also be making its way across the country with visits slated in Toronto, Calgary and Vancouver.


How to watch

Canada's Ultimate Challenge, the action-packed cross-country adventure of a lifetime comes to CBC and CBC Gem, Thursday Feb. 16 at 8 p.m. (8:30 NT). 

 In the end, only one team will win Canada's Ultimate Challenge.
