Host Bill Roach officially welcomed Erin Costelo to the East Coast Music Hour team this past weekend.

Costelo, the award-winning artist, songwriter and producer, takes over the reins of the show, after long-time producer Jeff Reilly's retirement this past summer.

"You've met Erin Costelo the award-winning musician before, but today you are going to meet the newly minted radio producer," Bill told the ECMH audience.

On the show, Bill and Erin talk about what's coming up in the future and what a producer actually does.

"Basically, my job is to be the wizard behind the curtain, and to be in charge of the whole show," says Erin. "Everything from programming the songs that you hear, to also bigger projects, where we can go into the community and help build the careers of artists in Atlantic Canada and celebrate the amazing voices that we've got."

Erin is no stranger to CBC audiences. Earlier this year, she was part of the 2022 edition of The Story and the Song.

In her new role, she wants to discover new voices and share them with the audience.

"If I'm being completely honest, CBC had such an impact on the building of my own career. My very first LP was made at Studio H in the old building with the help of great producers Glenn Meisner and Karl Falkenham. Without the steady support of the building of my career I wouldn't be where I am today," she says.

"I'm really looking forward to doing that for other artists, and artists that have not been traditionally represented, artists from traditionally marginalized communities. It's going to be really great to see and hear some new stuff," she continues.

In her first week on the job, Erin attended Nova Scotia Music Week in Sydney. She shares stories of some of the musicians she met and you'll hear them on the latest episode of ECMH.

"I just want to get out in the community and really hear some new voices and create some collaborations that wouldn't happen without CBC's involvement. Those are the most exciting things on the horizon."
