Makin' Waves offers free concerts in Sydney - up next Tim Baker and Basia Bulat on Aug. 4

Makin’ Waves concert series returns to Sydney and welcomes everyone home to live music, Thursdays from July 7 to Aug. 4.

Curated series extends warm “Welcome Home to Live Music” this summer

Makin' Waves returns to Sydney with a series of free concerts.


Over five Thursdays, from July 7 to Aug. 4, Wentworth Park comes alive at 6 p.m. with music, food trucks, vendors and community, for an atmosphere unique to the concert series.

The event presents 10 mainstage artists and five young Cape Breton songwriters as part of the Cape Breton Musiic Industry Cooperative (CBMIC) and FACTOR Front Stage Program.


Headliners over the five weeks include one of Cape Breton's hottest songwriters Dave Sampson, Newfoundland songwriter Tim Baker (formerly of Hey Rosetta!), award-winning Canadian soprano and multi-stylist Measha Brueggergosman, three time Polaris Prize nominee Basia Bulat, Canadian Songwriting Hall of Fame inductee Lennie Gallant, and New York City world music group Red Baraat.

Also performing at Makin' Waves will be two-time 2022 ECMA winner Morgan Toney, renowned jazz artist and host of CBC Radio's Saturday Night Jazz Laila Biali, Florida blues and "sacred steel" ensemble The Lee Boys, and the soaring voice of Island Girls and the soundtrack to our COVID lockdown's "Garbage Night Sessions" Jenn Sheppard
