Nova Scotia reports 11 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday

Nova Scotia reported 11 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday and 15 recoveries, bringing the active caseload to 93.

Six people are in hospital, including three in intensive care.

Labs in the province processed 5,602 tests on Thursday.

Nine of the new cases are in the central zone, and six of those are close contacts of older cases, one is related to travel and two are under investigation. 

The other two cases are in the eastern zone and both are connected to travel.

The province says there is limited community spread in the central zone. 

As of June 17, 752,599 doses of COVID-19 vaccine had been administered, including 73,600 second doses.

On Friday, the province opened eligibility for more people to reschedule their second dose of vaccine on an earlier date. Anyone who received their first shot on or before May 14 can rebook their appointment.

Notifications will be sent by email in several batches over the next few days. Those who did not provide an email address can call 1-833-797-7772 to rebook.

Mobile testing

A Nova Scotia health authority news release on Friday said Public Health will have mobile COVID-19 testing available over the weekend in Cape Breton and West Hants. 

Locations in Louisdale and Windsor will provide testing for drop-in and pre-booked appointments at the following locations:

• St. Louis Catholic Parish Hall at 156 Grandique Ferry Rd., Louisdale, on Saturday, June 19, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, June 20, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.. 
• Hants Exhibition Arena at 221 Wentworth Rd., Windsor, on Sunday, June 20, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Drop-in testing at both locations will be based on capacity. 

Testing in eastern zone

Testing is also available at the following locations in the eastern zone:

• Downtown Sydney rapid testing pop-up site (drop-in only) at the parking lot next to Spinner's Menswear at 329 Charlotte St. in Sydney on Friday and Saturday from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m., and on Sunday (weather permitting), from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Gargle tests are not available at this site. Testing will be provided to people over 16 who are asymptomatic and have not been at an exposure location.
• Antigonish Market Square primary assessment centre (drop-in and pre-booked appointments). Regular hours are Monday, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Gargle tests are available. Testing is available to everyone. 
• Membertou Entertainment Centre primary assessment centre at 11 Chief Ben Christmas Awti'j in Membertou (pre-booked appointments only). Every Monday and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Gargle tests are available and testing is open to everyone. 

Atlantic Canada case numbers

• New Brunswick reported three new cases Friday. It now has 54 active cases.
• Newfoundland and Labrador reported no new cases on Friday. The province has 22 active cases.
• P.E.I. has reported no new cases since June 3. There are no active cases.
