Pedestrian dies after collision with bus on Spring Garden Road
Police want to speak to anyone with information about what happened
A 24-year-old woman has died following a collision with a Halifax Transit bus in the south end of the city Thursday morning.
Police said in a statement they were called to the corner of South Park Street and Spring Garden Road at 6:50 a.m. They found that the woman, a pedestrian, had been struck by the bus.
She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The area was closed to all traffic but has since reopened.
In a statement to CBC News, municipal spokesperson Sarah Brannen said the city and Halifax Transit leadership are working with police during their investigation, including offering up camera footage from the bus.
"As with any incident involving a Halifax Transit or municipal vehicle, an internal review has been initiated," Brannen said, adding that the findings from the review will inform any adjustments to policies or procedures at Halifax Transit.
Brannen said there is no further information available since the investigation is ongoing.
It was the second serious accident in 24 hours on the same block of Spring Garden Road.
A 23-year-old cyclist was hospitalized with what police said could be life-threatening injuries after colliding with an open door of a parked vehicle on Wednesday afternoon.
