East Coast Music Week through the eyes of photographer Scott Blackburn
Blackburn is nominated for Graphic/Media Artist of the Year at this year's East Coast Music Awards
For photographer Scott Blackburn, taking photos of musicians has always been his professional passion.
"There is so much emotion to be captured with photographing live musicians and bands and that's kind of why I like it," he said.
"The thrill, the rush, there is nothing quite like being in front of 50,000 people."
Blackburn has been shooting live performances of Maritime musicians for the past seven years. He is nominated this year for an East Coast Music Award in the Graphic/Media Artist of the Year category.
"It's the most humbling feeling to be recognized by my peers," said Blackburn.
The awards ceremony is being held tonight in St. John's, N.L.
During Blackburn's career, he has had the chance to photograph some of the greatest musicians of all time, including Paul McCartney, Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen. However, Blackburn says capturing the live moments of our local talent can be the most rewarding.
"We embrace them and they embrace us, it's kind of a plus-plus for everyone," he said.
Blackburn has shot many of the events surrounding East Coast Music Week (ECMW). CBC News asked Blackburn to share his most memorable ECMW photographs with us, so he opened up his portfolio and picked 11 of his favourites. Enjoy!
