Faulty adapters prompt national recall of thousands of Hatch baby sound machines
The recall notice from Health Canada recommends contacting the company for a replacement adapter
The power adapter for a popular baby sound machine is being recalled due to an electrical hazard.
Health Canada posted a recall notice this week for the adapter, included with some Hatch Baby Rest 1st Generation sound machines.
The recall involves all adapters with the model number CYAP05 050100U, which can be checked by looking at the number printed in black near the prongs of the adapter.
Health Canada said all users should immediately stop using the adapter and contact the company directly for a replacement.
In a notice posted on its website, Hatch Baby Inc. stated that it issued the recall voluntarily after learning the plastic housing of the adapter could become detached when unplugged, exposing the prongs and posing a shock risk.
The company said that the recall affects only the adapter and not the device. Once the adapter has been replaced, the product is safe to use, according to the notice on its site.
The Health Canada recall notice stated that as of July 3, there have been no reports of incidents or injuries in Canada.
In the United States, there have been 19 reports of the AC adapter detaching and two reports of minor electrical shock.
Health Canada states that 44,352 units of the product have been sold in Canada, and that the affected products were on the market from October 2020 to July 2023.
