Halifax gymnast Black wins Olympic nod
Ellie Black has won one of five spots on the Canadian women's Olympic gymnastics team.
Ellie Black, a 16-year-old from Halifax, has won one of five spots on the Canadian women's Olympic gymnastics team.
The official announcement will be made Friday by the Canadian Olympic Committee, but Gymnastics Canada tweeted the news late Thursday.
"Ellie Black selected as the fifth gymnast to be nominated to Canada's Olympic team. Jessica Savona and Madeline Gardiner 1st and 2nd reserve," the tweet said.
Earlier this week, Gymnastics Canada said the top five would be selected after a final competition in Gatineau, Que., on Thursday.
The other four qualifiers are:
- Kristina Vaculik (Whitby, Ont.)
- Victoria Moors (Cambridge, Ont.)
- Brittany Rogers (Coquitlam, B.C.)
- Dominique Pegg (Sarnia, Ont.)
With this five-member squad, Canada will have its first full women's Olympic team since 2004.
