Fire fighters were working to extinguish a fire late Thursday evening aboard a navy vessel in Halifax.

"Everybody on board's accounted for and safe, so we're all good," Halifax Fire Deputy Chief Chuck Bezanson said on the phone from the scene.

He had 18 crew at the scene, he said. Bezanson did not know which navy vessel caught fire.

As of 10:45 p.m., the fire was three floors below deck, he said.

"We haven't found the actual seat of the fire yet," Bezanson said. "We're working hard to get it."
