A  36-year-old Tennycape, N.S., man has been charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000.

According to an RCMP news release Wednesday, police launched an investigation after receiving a report that a local ironworkers' union had been defrauded by a member's submission of false health benefit claims.

Police allege the man submitted more than 300 false insurance claims over a seven-month period in 2022, the release said.

A representative of Iron Workers Local 752 confirmed it was the union affected but declined comment because the matter is before the courts.

The man will appear in Shubenacadie provincial court on Sept. 5, the release said.
