Macdonald Bridge will be closed this weekend
Closure applies to vehicles, pedestrians and bicycles
The Angus L. Macdonald Bridge will be closed this weekend to accommodate work being done as part of a two-year, $70-million project to extend the life of the span.
The closure — which applies to vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians — begins Friday at 7 p.m. and ends Monday at 5:30 a.m.
The bridge's sidewalk and bike lane will not be accessible during this period, but Halifax Harbour Bridges said bus tickets will be available to "inconvenienced bridge crossers" at its operations centre in the administration building on the Dartmouth side and from traffic control on the Halifax side.
Halifax Harbour Bridges anticipates another weekend closure could be needed, but it hasn't scheduled a date yet.
While work is being done, traffic delays should be expected and "bridge users are encouraged to plan alternate routes and allow additional travel times," the bridge commission said.
