Man swept away at Peggys Cove

A search is underway at Peggys Cove, N.S., after a 28-year-old man was swept off the rocks near the lighthouse around 6:15 p.m. AT.

A search is underway at Peggys Cove, N.S., after a 28-year-old man was swept off the rocks near the lighthouse around 6:15 p.m. AT.

The man had been watching waves with his girlfriend, who was not injured.

He is described as an experienced athlete and diver but he was not in diving gear at the time.

Rescue teams responded with a sea, land and air hunt for the man.

Two police officers who joined the search at Peggys Cove were also swept off the rock, but both were rescued. They were taken to a hospital in Halifax. Their condition is not known but is believed not to be serious.
