A Halifax-area massage therapist who was charged with one count of sexual assault in March is now facing five additional sexual assault charges.

Police arrested and charged Sergii Kozub, 43, with one count of sexual assault on March 5.

Kozub was a massage therapist working at a business on Lacewood Drive, Halifax Regional Police say in a news release. Police say the assault "is alleged to have taken place during an appointment."

Kozub appeared in court on April 14 to face the charge.

Police say that since that time "more victims have come forward and police are now laying five additional sexual assault charges against Sergii Kozub."

Kozub is scheduled to appear at Halifax provincial court on June 5.

The executive director of the Massage Therapists' Association of Nova Scotia has confirmed last month that Kozub was a member of the organization.

Emily Roeding said Kozub's membership was suspended pending the outcome of the association's internal investigation.
