2 drivers dead in separate crashes in rural Nova Scotia

Two drivers are dead following separate crashes Monday in rural parts of Nova Scotia, one in Yarmouth County and the second in the Annapolis Valley.

Yarmouth County man, Kings County man killed single-vehicle collisions

Two drivers are dead following separate crashes Monday in rural parts of Nova Scotia, one in Yarmouth County and the second in the Annapolis Valley.

RCMP said in a news release that at about 8:40 a.m. Monday, they were notified of a collision on Melbourne Road near Melbourne, about 10 kilometres outside the town of Yarmouth.

Yarmouth RCMP, fire crews and paramedics responded to the scene. They found a damaged pickup truck that had left the road, gone into a ditch and rolled onto its side. 

The driver, a 53-year-old man from Yarmouth County, was trapped underneath the truck. He later died at the scene.

A collision reconstructionist attended the scene, and the investigation is ongoing. 

Second fatal crash in Annapolis Valley 

A 44-year-old man also died Monday in a separate fatal crash near Nictaux in Annapolis County. Police were called to the single-vehicle collision around 1:55 p.m.

Annapolis RCMP, fire crews and paramedics responded and found a damaged car that had been travelling east on Middle Road when it left the roadway and went into a ditch.

The driver of the car, a 44-year-old man from Kings County, was rushed to Soldiers Memorial Hospital by ambulance where he later died.

The passenger of the car, a 20-year-old man from Annapolis County, was uninjured.

A collision reconstructionist visited the scene, and the RCMP continue to investigate.
