Many Nova Scotians are waking under a blanket of snow.

As of 4 a.m. parts of the province are under as much as seven centimetres. That was the snowfall total for Greenwood this morning. Halifax Stanfield International Airport recorded six centimetres and there are reports of five centimetres of snow in Upper Tantallon.

A disturbance passing by to the south of Nova Scotia is getting today started on a wet and somewhat treacherous note along the south shore of the province with rain and fog and some areas of freezing rain.

Northern New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Cape Breton are pretty much away from this brand of weather.

An area of high pressure is slowly moving to the east through Quebec towards Labrador and this feature will build south over the Maritimes and ensure mostly fair weather for the next few days.

The next significant feature will be a disturbance bringing the week to an end on a wet note — wet but mild.

Afternoon temperatures will be rising to near the normal by Friday and above that point for Saturday.

So milder but with periods of rain that will likely start as snow before daybreak on Friday.
