Mixed precipitation forecasted as storm moves into Nova Scotia on Saturday
Precipitation in an Alberta Clipper headed to N.S. will be a mix of rain, freezing rain, ice pellets and snow
A ridge of high pressure that crossed over the Maritimes last night made for a mainly clear and cold night, providing a mostly sunny day Friday.
Now that the weekend is upon us, you might be thinking of cleaning up snow from Wednesday. But tomorrow will not be the best day for that.
An area of low pressure — another Alberta Clipper — will get together with a disturbance moving north along the American seaboard to our southwest. The two features will combine and intensify then track along to the east just south of Nova Scotia during the day on Saturday.
However, it will push its precipitation into the Maritimes starting around midday Saturday, in southwestern New Brunswick and southwestern Nova Scotia.
It will be a day of mixed precipitation, from treacherous freezing rain to ice pellets, rain and snow.
The snow will spread across most of the Maritimes accompanied by a moderate strong east-to-northeast wind. Snow will then change to rain or showers with freezing rain in the changeover.
There's another risk of freezing rain later on Saturday in southern New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island.
Snowfall will be slight.
Sunday will see temperatures turn colder, again, with some fair weather returning.
