Suspect in Sydney, N.S.-area shooting arrested, victim in stable condition

Cape Breton Regional Police said Saturday a suspect they were searching for following a shooting in Sydney, N.S., that sent one person to hospital has now been arrested.

Cape Breton Regional Police say a suspect they were searching for following a shooting in Sydney, N.S., that sent one person to hospital has now been arrested.

The incident occurred at Rotary Drive on Saturday evening.

Police released a statement describing the suspect and urging residents to avoid the area and refrain from picking up hitchhikers.

About two hours later, police said the suspect was located and arrested. They said the male victim, whom they believe was shot by a long gun, was in stable condition in hospital.

Police believe the shooting was "an isolated incident," but the investigation is ongoing.
