Stephen Harper delivering remarks in Truro, N.S., tonight
Prime minister visiting Conservative MP Scott Armstrong's riding
Prime Minister Stephen Harper is speaking tonight at an event in Truro, Nova Scotia.
The Prime Minister's Office says Harper plans to deliver remarks at the Cobequid Educational Centre after 7 p.m.
The riding is held by Conservative MP Scott Armstrong.
He will be challenged in this fall's federal election by former Tory MP Bill Casey, who is running for the Liberals.
"It seems that we have their attention," said Casey in a news release.
Casey won the Liberal nomination for the riding of Cumberland-Colchester in March.
He said he hopes that Harper will make major announcements to create much-needed jobs in Cumberland-Colchester.
"When our young people go west to find work it that hurts our communities, hurts our families, takes away our volunteers and our firefighters and our prospective entrepreneurs who are the future of our towns and villages," said Casey in a news release.
"It is ironic that the government of Nova Scotia is trying hard to attract people to come to Nova Scotia when the federal government's policy is to encourage our young people to go west to find work."
Casey previously represented the riding for 17 years, first as a Tory and then as an Independent before retiring from politics in 2009.
