Dartmouth death on Portland Street ruled a homicide, suspect arrested

Halifax Regional Police have ruled a suspicious death on Portland Street in Dartmouth to be a homicide and have arrested a man in connection with the incident.

Halifax Regional Police have ruled a suspicious death on Portland Street in Dartmouth, N.S., Monday night a homicide and have arrested a man in connection with the incident.

The victim has been identified as 52-year-old Darren Clyde Reid of Dartmouth.

A 68-year-old man was arrested Monday night at the scene and police say charges are expected.

"This is not a random act as the victim and the suspect knew one another," Sgt. Brian Palmeter said in a news release emailed Tuesday evening.

Medical distress

Police responded to a report of a man in medical distress on Monday night. The call came in around 8:49 p.m. from a residence on Portland Street near Alderney Drive.  

Police did not say what kind of medical distress the man was in. 

Police are still seeking tips on the incident and asking anyone with information to call them at 902-490-5016.
