Labour department issues stop-work order after workplace incident in Truro
Police and fire crews were called to a tape manufacturing plant on Abbey Ave. Saturday night
The Nova Scotia Department of Labour is investigating a workplace incident that happened Saturday night in Truro.
Cpl. Greg Densmore with the Truro Police Service said officers were called to Intertape Polymer Group Inc., a company that manufactures tape and plastic wrap, just before 9 p.m.
The Quebec-based company has a plant on the corner of Abbey Ave. and Polymer Rd. in the Truro business park.
Ross Marshall, a spokesperson for the company, said one employee was injured in an incident that involved a machine.
The employee is recovering at a hospital in Halifax, Marshall said. He did not know the age of the employee and would not specify the employee's gender.
Marshall would not comment on the extent of the injury, but did say a procedure took place at the hospital overnight and the employee is now recovering there.
No one else hurt
No one else was involved or was hurt, Marshall said.
The local fire department and EHS also responded to the incident, Densmore said.
A spokesperson confirmed in an email that the Department of Labour and Advanced Education has issued a stop-work order on the equipment that was involved.
Marshall said the company is fully co-operating with the department's investigation.
