Two people have been arrested, a man and a woman, in the assault of a 48-year-old man Monday in Cape Breton.

Staff of the Atlantic Superstore on King Street in North Sydney, N.S., discovered the man in the store parking lot. Badly beaten, the man, known only as Sean, was left with serious head injuries and was taken to hospital in Halifax for further treatment.

Jenn MacLeod of Boularderie, a 22-year-old woman from Boularderie, was arrested Wednesday and held in police custody overnight.

She appeared in Sydney provincial court Thursday afternoon to face charges of aggravated assault and wearing a disguise with intent to commit an offence and a breach of an undertaking.

Police also have a second suspect in custody. A 25-year-old man from Sydney Mines was also arrested and police say further charges are pending.

Friends of the victim say Shawn is a friend to the street kids in the area, who keeps to himself.

Shawn is also known to sometimes camp in the woods behind the grocery store with his dog Chico. Police said it was at that campsite the assault took place.

It is also thought he has family in Truro.

The dog is being cared for by the SPCA until Shawn is out of hospital.

Cape Breton Regional Police are asking for anyone with further information to contact them at (902) 563-5151 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
