2nd Monday shooting also believed to be gang related, police say
No arrests made in both Monday shootings, Ottawa police say
Two gang-related shootings in Ottawa on Monday have left two men injured, police say, with the latest incident happening on a residential street in west Ottawa.
Police said one young man was shot on the road after multiple bullets were fired in what investigators believe was a targeted attack. Residents in the area told CBC News they heard about seven shots.
Moments after the shots were fired, a white sedan riddled with bullets crashed into a dumpster and a man was spotted fleeing the scene, residents said.
"I heard, I'd say seven or eight loud bangs, and I thought it might have been firecrackers. And then I came upstairs and ... heard a loud boom, and from what the policemen said the loud boom was the car that ran into the dumpster," said resident Don Stoodley.
"It seems to be what's going on in this city. ... I could have been out there myself at the time."
The victim suffered one gunshot wound and was conscious and breathing when he arrived at hospital, police said. There was no word on his condition.
No arrests were made, police said. The guns and gangs unit is investigating.
Monday's 1st shooting happened downtown
The victim got into a taxi cab and was taken to hospital, where he was treated for a bullet wound. He was in stable condition, according to police.
Police said the victim is well known to police and is a member of a gang.
Police are also investigating whether the victim was in a nearby nightclub before the shooting, but Acting Staff Sgt. Ken Bryden said the business is not being very co-operative with police.
No arrests were made and the guns and gangs unit continues to investigate.
