3 held after fatal Ottawa shooting
A 19-year-old man is dead and three other men are in custody after a shooting in the city's west end overnight.
The man was found with gunshot wounds around 1 a.m. Monday in the 4000 block of Moodie Drive, between Barnsdale Road and Brophy Drive, said an Ottawa Paramedic Service news release.
The man was sent to hospital, where he died, Ottawa police said. An autopsy was scheduled for Monday.
As of 8 a.m., three people were in custody. Police indicated that the major crime section is investigating what they believe to be a home invasion and homicide.
On Monday morning, police tape surrounded the perimeter of the property where the shooting took place, barring access to the two-storey, modern-looking brick house. The home is set far back from the road, behind dense stands of evergreens. Four cars remained parked in front, including a cream-coloured SUV and a small green sedan.
Brian Buchanan, who has lived directly across the street for two decades, said the home has been a rental property for several years. The most recent tenants appeared to be all men, but he didn't know how many there were and said he didn't know them very well.
The landlord confirmed to CBC News the tenants had been there since August.
Donna Wolf lives 2 doors down from what she called a very busy rental property.
"There seemed to be cars not necessarily coming and going, but a lot of cars parked," she said. "It looked like there were a lot of people living there."
Wolf says she didn't know the tenants, but she returned a wandering dog to that house a few months ago. She said a young man answered the door, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
