Mark Gerretsen is projected to return for a fourth term as the MP for Kingston and the Islands after topping Conservative Bryan Paterson in a battle of former and current Kingston mayors.

The riding has been Liberal since the late 1980s when the party took it from Flora MacDonald and the Progressive Conservatives.

Gerretsen has been the MP since 2015 after serving as Kingston's mayor from 2010 to 2014. Paterson, the current Kingston mayor, took unpaid leave to run for the Conservatives. He came in second.

The regular independent boundary review after the 2021 census removed the portion of Kingston north of Highway 401 from what's now Lanark-Frontenac, reuniting the city in one riding.

Four candidates were on the ballot.
