Young man identified as Ottawa's 10th homicide victim of 2021
Loris Tyson Ndongozi Nkunzimana, 20, found shot late Sunday night, police say
Ottawa police have identified the victim of a shooting in Ottawa's Lowertown neighbourhood as 20-year-old Loris Tyson Ndongozi Nkunzimana.
Officers were called to the area of Beausoleil Drive and York Street just before midnight Sunday after police say residents heard gunshots.
Nkunzimana was found shot and was later pronounced dead, police said. He is the city's tenth homicide victim of the year.
Another 20-year-old man from Ottawa was also seriously injured. He is currently in hospital in stable condition, police said.
The road near York Street Public School and École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Anne remained cordoned off by police tape Monday morning.
While neighbours leaving their homes were left wondering what happened, police continue to search for suspects seen fleeing the area.
2nd shooting over the weekend
Ottawa police are also investigating a shooting that occurred in nearby Sandy Hill.
On Friday night, officers found a 32-year-old man who had been shot near Sweetland Avenue and Osgoode Street.
The man sustained serious injuries but is now in stable condition.
Anyone with information about these shootings is asked to contact police.
