A rally harkening back to last year's Idle No More heyday was held in Ottawa.

Protesters marched from Victoria Island to Parliament Hill today opposing what they call the federal government's 'unilateral' approach to First Nations education.

The Idle No More and Defenders of the Land protest started with a ceremony at Victoria Island at 11 a.m. ET Tuesday.

Speakers, including Chief Theresa Spence, Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs Grand Chief Derek Nepinak and NDP MP Romeo Saganash said the proposed First Nations Education Act doesn't give enough funding help, nor provide autonomy.

After the ceremony, protesters marched to Parliament Hill where a rally was held.
