John McRae charged with 2nd-degree murder in city's 4th homicide of 2015
John McRae and his son Michael McRae lived together, had history of arguing, neighbour says
A 70-year-old Ottawa man has been charged with second-degree murder after the Tuesday evening stabbing death of his son, the city's fourth homicide of 2015.
Police and paramedics were called to an apartment at 6632 Notre-Dame St., off St. Joseph Boulevard near Jeanne D'Arc Boulevard, at about 6:45 p.m. Tuesday.
They found 51-year-old Michael McRae suffering from multiple stab wounds in his chest and abdomen. He was taken to hospital by paramedics where he was later pronounced dead, police said.
His father, 70-year-old John McRae, was arrested at the scene and remains in custody.
He appeared in an Ottawa courtroom Wednesday afternoon and faced a charge of second-degree murder.
Michael McRae has a criminal record dating back to 2002, while his father's criminal record dates back to 2003, according to Ottawa court records.
'He just looked angry'
Kyle Bunville, who lives in the same building as the two men, told CBC Ottawa Wednesday morning that the father and son had a history of arguing.
He said he was having a drink with Michael McRae at the building on Tuesday afternoon.
"His girlfriend came and started talking to him and I went inside because they started talking about a private matter, and that was it. I didn't see him for the next two to three hours, and then police were rushing in the building," Bunville said.
Bunville said he later watched police lead John McRae away in handcuffs.
"He just looked angry," Bunville said. "He just looked at me and said, 'I told you, bud.'"
"I don't know how to feel right now, to be honest."
