Wine and freeze: Ottawa grape growers dig in for winter
At KIN Vineyards in Kinburn, they're busy harvesting the last few grapes of the season so the vines can be buried before the winter chill sets in.
A local vineyard is in a race against time to ready 16 acres of grape vines for the coming cold snap.
Ottawa's frigid winter weather can make growing grapes in the city a challenge. The low temperatures can damage the vines, so they have to be buried over the winter months and unearthed in the spring.
To add to the challenge, KIN Vineyards took the risk of growing a less-reliable vinifera grape so it can produce VQA-approved wine.
