Marc Dos Santos, Ottawa Fury FC coach, leaving at end of season
Team gave Major League Soccer permission to begin contract talks
Ottawa Fury FC head coach Marc Dos Santos is leaving the team at the end of the season to join Major League Soccer, the team announced Tuesday.
"Marc has done a great job for us, other clubs have noticed and he is moving on with the intention of moving up to higher levels of the game," said Fury FC president John Pugh in a media release, adding that "it's the nature of the sport."
While the team gave Major League Soccer permission to begin contract discussions with Dos Santos, the coach will see Ottawa's team to the end of the North American Soccer League season.
Dos Santos has been head coach since the team was founded last year.
The Ottawa Fury FC are now at the top of NASL's 2015 fall standings with eight matches left to secure a first-ever playoff berth.
"I think we've put together something very special here in Ottawa," Dos Santos is quoted saying in a media release. "... I know the franchise is in great shape for the future."
The search for a new coach is underway, the team said Tuesday.
