Minor earthquake felt in Ottawa, Montreal
Epicentre of 3.8-magnitude quake located east of Maniwaki, Que.
A minor earthquake centred east of Maniwaki, Que., was felt as far away as Ottawa and Montreal on Wednesday, but appears to have caused no damage.
According to Earthquakes Canada, the 3.8-magnitude earthquake occurred minutes before noon. Its epicentre was located 17 kilometres located southwest of L'Annonciation, Que., and about 110 kilometres northeast of Ottawa.
As of 1 p.m., Earthquakes Canada had received nearly 2,000 reports about the tremor, including reports from Ottawa and Montreal. The agency received no reports of damage, and said none are expected.
Quakes measuring between 2.5 and 5.4 in magnitude are often felt but typically cause little or no damage to inhabited areas.
In December, Earthquakes Canada recorded a 4.1-magnitude earthquake north of Maniwaki, Que.
