Mountie killed in Moncton studied policing in Ottawa

Const. David Ross, a 32-year-old Mountie killed in Wednesday's shooting spree in Moncton, N.B., graduated from policing school in Ottawa in 2007.

Ross was a model student who received his diploma with distinction, La Cité collégiale confirmed in a statement on Friday.

A tense manhunt that locked down a section of Moncton for more than 24 hours ended Friday just after midnight with the arrest of 24-year-old Justin Bourque. He is accused of killing three RCMP officers and wounding two more on Wednesday evening.

Ross was a married father of a 19-month-old with another baby on the way, his mother-in-law told CBC News. He was born in Quebec, studied in Ottawa and moved to New Brunswick seven years ago. 

"This is the most horrifying, difficult experience," she said.

Lise Bourgeois, president of La Cité, said in a statement that flags at the school will be at half-mast until the sun sets on the day memorial services are held for the Mounties killed.

"Everyone at La Cité joins me to offer our sincere condolences to his family, colleagues and friends and also to the two other fallen RCMP members, Mr. Fabrice George Gevaudan and Mr. James Larche. Our prayers and thoughts are also with the wounded officers who are recovering following this horrible tragedy in Moncton," she said.
