Man killed in Carlington near 2 city parks
People told police they saw a shooting on Raven Avenue around 10:40 a.m.
Ottawa police say a man was killed on Raven Avenue southwest of the city core Wednesday morning.
People in the area called officers about a shooting near Raven and Carlington parks around 10:40 a.m., police said in a news release.
Officers found a 47-year-old man's body and have launched a homicide investigation, they said.
Pat Cartisano, who works as a mechanic on the street, said he was in the bathroom sometime between 10:30 and 10:45 a.m. when he heard four or five gunshots outside.
Then he went outside to see what had happened.
"All I saw was a gentleman lying in the laneway, not moving," Cartisano said. "Normally a very, very quiet neighbourhood. It's shocking to me."
By around 11 a.m., he said, police had cordoned off the road and moved the body.
Candice Armstrong, who also works nearby, said she heard a "rapid set of noises" and assumed it was a nearby quarry setting off explosives. Then she saw police in the area.
"It's the first time I've seen anything like this," she said. "I'm hoping it's the last time."
Police said the investigation is ongoing and there were no suspects in custody.
