Ottawa professor Hassan Diab to be extradited
Ottawa university professor Hassan Diab has been ordered to return to France to face charges connected to a 1980 bombing of a Paris synagogue.
Justice Minister Rob Nicholson has ordered an Ottawa professor to be extradited to France to face terror-bombing charges.
The Justice Department says the minister ordered Hassan Diab, who has taught sociology at both Carleton University and the University of Ottawa, to be surrendered to France yesterday.
Diab now has 30 days to seek judicial review of the minister's decision.
French authorities say Diab was involved in the 1980 bombing of a Paris synagogue that killed four people and injured dozens of others.
The RCMP arrested Diab, a Canadian of Lebanese descent, in November 2008 in response to a request by France.
He denies any role in the attack.
