Ottawa Senators looking for pieces of hockey history to mark 25th anniversary
Owner Eugene Melnyk will officially launch the memorabilia initiative March 22
The Ottawa Senators are on the hunt for historical hockey memorabilia in the national capital region to help mark the team's 25th anniversary season in 2017-2018.
Senators owner Eugene Melnyk is calling on fans in the area to look through their collections of significant hockey-related items to celebrate the sport's history in Ottawa-Gatineau.
"We have every intention of ensuring our 25th anniversary season provides our great fans a wide range of incredible and memorable events to mark the team's special milestone," Melnyk said in a press release on Monday.
"The Ottawa Senators and the birth of the Stanley Cup are examples of the rich hockey history that exists in the Ottawa-Gatineau region," he said. "We want to showcase and celebrate this."
Campaign officially launches March 22
Melnyk will officially launch the campaign in Ottawa on March 22, but he wants to put the word out now to generate early interest of the celebration amongst fans.
Full details on the collection and archiving of these historical items will be provided at a news conference on March 22 at the Canadian Tire Centre.
